Expert reports
The study of a problem in stone floors, cladding or elements, to find its causes.
An expert report is based on visual analysis and ends with a final report, often used in legal disputes. It is the technical examination of a fact or a piece of work: a judgement, backed by technical reasoning, on the causes of the problems described in the assignment.
It is carried out by someone with in-depth knowledge of stone materials, their limits and their possibilities, looking in particular at:
- their appearance and visual features
- their structural characteristics
- their behaviour once laid
- their behaviour with water- and oil-repellent treatments

The stages
After the assignment, and once the technician has prepared what is needed, the main stages are these.
Site inspection
Careful examination and description of the site, with notes, photographs and, if needed, the help of specialist staff.
Document research
Written report
What the inspections and research have found: first a general description of the setting of the work, then the details the report concerns, one by one.
Judgement
It is not the final stage, but the logical basis for dealing with the results, any remedies and the costs.
Conclusions
They sum up all the opinions on the facts and circumstances and all the proposed remedies, where needed.
